Some of the biggest success stories grow out of humble beginnings, and that was certainly the case for Power Motive Corporation. Founded by Ed Donahue in 1959, the company originally started out as a Massey Ferguson agricultural equipment dealer serving the mostly rural customer base in Colorado. Over the next few years, however, as parts of Colorado embraced an urban mindset, PMC changed course and began selling construction equipment, starting with the Michigan line of wheel loaders and rubber tire bulldozers.

 

Today, PMC specializes in equipment that serves not only the construction industry, but also mining, forestry, agriculture, utilities, manufacturing, recycling, and many others. PMC sells bulldozers, excavators, graders, skid steer loaders, shovels, wheel loaders, off-highway trucks, crushers,screens, wash plants, pavers and more.

 

1979 PMC serviceEarly Changes


From 1959 to 1979, Power Motive Corporation went through a few ownership changes before finally landing on Bill Blount in 1980. Blount started out as a sales representative at the company in 1972, but eventually went on to become PMC’s third owner. Back when Blount first joined the company, it only had one location, in Denver, Colorado. Over the next few decades, PMC would go on to add four more Colorado locations – in Grand Junction, Colorado Springs, Milliken, and Durango – plus one in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The year 1975 was somewhat of a turning point for Power Motive Corporation, as it was then that PMC found its identity as a Komatsu distributor. Komatsu had established its presence in the United States only five years prior when it first introduced its bulldozers to American consumers. PMC was one of the first dealers to get on board, as it began to sell not only Komatsu dozers, but also the Komatsu wheel loaders, excavators, motor graders, and trucks that came along in the early 1980s. Komatsu continues to be PMC’s primary product line to this day, and PMC is the oldest Komatsu dealer west of the Mississippi.

The period from 2009, which marked the company’s 50th anniversary, to 2016 were particularly important for Power Motive Corporation because the company brought on many new brands. There was KPI-JCI in 2003, Sakai in 2011, Takeuchi in 2013, and Roadtec in 2016. In addition to Komatsu and those aforementioned brands, PMC also offers products from Morbark and Sandvik Mining and Construction. It was also during this period PMC opened its most recent branches: Milliken in 2005, Durango in 2010 and Cheyenne in 2014.

PMC History
